Pauline, That's IT! I've had enough!!! Only joking! I'm not going to use my old thread (Things I Like and Don't Like) anymore. I just typed 10 lines to TG and the b****y thing would not post, and I was cut off, so I'm wondering if the volume of the thread is the cause??? BUT, there have also been many, many times in the past when...I've clicked the arrow at the top left, or the large red active arrow to return to previous window, and there has been no action atall, just a dead window. Now, I know that old Fussy is getting on a bit and people will say....he's a doddering old git, and doesn't know a Baileys from a bulls foot. BUT, old Fussy's going to dispute that with a simple question......WHY is it that Fussy does NOT get this problem with ANY of the other numerous websites he visits over the last 9 years? Which, makes me think again....that something is not quite right with the delivery of the site from ForumCo. There's a definite weakness somewhere along the line. Or, of course, it could possibly be that the broadband's heavy traffic is coincidentally causing the blip. Still,...not to worry Pauline, it's not the end of the bloomin' world, only a cause for a few swearwords now and again. Ho! Ho! Ho!

Well, what next eh! I've just swotted a bloomin' bluebottle,...that's the second one I've clobbered this December. Has anyone else carried out a similar killing this month? Or do I deserve a mention in the Guinness Book of Records? Ho! Ho! Ho!

'Bluebottles in December'....sounds like an Agatha Christie mystery. |

Sorry, can't be around for a gossip today Larry. I'm just getting ready to go to an Anniversary party, so it looks as if I'm in for a good old nosh-up later on, 'sangwidges' and pizzas, and pork pies, and bubbly, and other indescribable eats like chilli, and things like that. I've never heard of some of the perishing things they put on the table these days. I hope they've got some Baileys there. Ho! Ho! Ho! See you next Sunday Larry, but if you won't be able to be around, here's wishing you and yours, a Very Happy Christmas. Cheers M8. |

Sorry folks, but I've got this hideous cold, coughs and headaches, I am only able to manage a few lines.
Here's wishing you all a very HAPPY CHRISTMAS, and hope you all enjoy your Christmas dinners, and all the trimmings. My taste buds have disappeared, so I can only hope the little devils will be back by mid-day tomorrow.
Will be back on here as soon as I can. Expect our Larry has been shivering these last few days! |

Ooooooooooh! As this is my 'likes and dislikes' thread, I MUST get this one in....I DISLIKE LOSING MY TASTE BUDS. I can't even taste a piece of bread mun,..it tastes like, what I think wet newspaper would taste like. And a cup of tea has no taste atall. My pork chop tastes like a piece of rubber, and chips, peas, and eggs and pickles....I can NOT describe what on earth they taste like. But, all is not lost...I CAN slightly taste Tomato soup. Ho! Ho! Ho!
I can't even taste my Baileys,...would you believe!!! |

This IS a strange bloomin' flu,...2 days ago I felt lousy, then yesterday I felt a little bit better, but today neither of us are feeling too good. It seems to fluctuate from day to day. Haven't seen a pip of you these last few days Pauline. Hope you are OK, and not got any of this lot, that we have. I was only thinking a few days ago,...I don't ever remember being so ill as I was over Christmas. The last time I was REALLY ill, was when I had Malaria in India/Burma during WWII. So this dose of flu has been a bit of a b****r.

Lousy weather innit! Me and Liz are feeling just about the same again today. I tried a tot of Baileys last night, but it tasted like.....rancid marzipan. I never thought it would take this long for the taste buds to return to base. It's 12 bloomin' days now since we had a decent nosh-up. Toodlepip.
I'll try to nip in again, later. |

Here I am again, but only for a couple of minutes, 'cos if I type more than a few lines,...as sure as eggs are eggs, I'll be cut off. It's around about this time of the evening, when I've been cut off in the past,...the excuse being, that there's heavy traffic on broadband.
Still no sign of life on here again today. Hope it's not due to sickness. Anyway, I'll try to snoop around here again tomorrow. |

Well, folks I'm not feeling as good today, as I was yesterday. As I said before, this is a funny old flu,....but my taste buds are returning slowly. I could taste Liz's Mince pies today, and the Brandy cream, so there's hope for the old boy yet, eh! Liz is also a teeny-weeny bit better, but she also can taste a bit more than earlier in the week. Will try to post again tomorrow. |

How are the old taste buds today Fussy? I don't think we really appreciate our sense of taste and smell until we loose them for a bit.I usually enjoy my grub and hardly ever refuse a second helping of anything, but it's amazing how fast you can go off eating when everything that goes in your cakehole tastes like chaff |

Hello, everybody! So sorry, not being in a fit state to post these last few weeks. No, haven't taken a turn for the worse Larry, but can honestly say I have not felt atall well since the week before Christmas,...that goes for Liz as well, we have both felt weak and tired each and every day. It must have been a vicious flu because Liz recovers fairly quickly from colds and flu, but she is really rough. I am able to pop up here to my pad, to peep in on the site, but have not felt atall like computing these days. I'm worried about Pauline, not a word from her either recently. I hope she's not got this bloomin' flu that's floating about, because it would be devastating for her with her being on her own. I hope and pray that she is well. Will try to post again soon. |

Just managed to eat a slice of gammon, with some chips and peas, and one sausage. I think our taste buds are two thirds way back now, so there's hope on the horizon. But, I am worried about the fact that there's no word from Pauline. We two, found it difficult enough, but it must be very, very difficult for her,...if she is not well. Toodlepip.
Will pop in again later!

Ooooooooh! Lousy weather innit!
Getting better, bit by bit. I honestly believe it's going to take until the summer to really get back to normal. But, I must say we are both recovering slowly. I am more worried about Pauline than anything else at the moment. Not a dickiebird from her again today. Hope you are OK healthwise, Pauline. If your absence is due to PC problems,...so be it! We'll wait till you sort things out. Be back tomorrow!....I hope. |

Oooooh! There's a nip in the air today folks. We are probably in for a spell of frosty weather any time now. But that doesn't bother me too much. What bothers me is,...the well being of Pauline, especially with her being on her own. Looks as if we are going to have to hang on, and hope we shall hear from her soon. We are both recovering, but slowly, and the odd thing about this bloomin' flu is,...one feels better today, but one may not feel as good tomorrow. But there is progress,..,taste buds almost back to normal. Hope Bob's taste buds are back to normal too. He was more worried 'cos he couldn't taste his blinkin' beer,...I could weep for him, poor dab! Ho! Ho!
Hope to hear from Pauline very soon.

Hope you've got your woolly coat on today Larry,...bit nippy innit! Sorry to have missed you these last 3 or 4 Sundays. But, I am not a-kidding of you M8, this bloomin' flu thingy was the worst flu that I can ever remember. Oooooooh! I was pretty rough aye. The only time I can think of, when I felt worse than this, was when I had Malaria in the Far East during WWII. But I am getting better, slowly. I'm more worried about Pauline, than anything else at the moment. Still not a dickiebird from her. If she's not well, it would be difficult for her, especially with her being on her own. |

Don't worry Fussy, I haven't completely deserted the site. I HAVE been a bit under the weather, had a bit of a cough and sore throat, sneezing etc. (though nothing as bad as that awful flu of yours) and also had a few other problems here, but I'm still in the land of the living (at least, I THINK I am) I'm a bit peckish at the moment as I haven't had anything to eat since yesterday (and not a lot then) so I'm off to have a snack, but I'll try to pop back in later with an update on what's been happening lately. |

Oooooh! Thank God you are coping, even though you've not been too good, with one thing and another. I can well imagine the way you feel when things are not behaving as they should.
Innit bloomin' cold. There was a time when I could stand up to any amount of cold weather, but I'm afraid my D of B has caught up with me, so I'm off, back to the warmth of our lounge. Back later.

Ooooooh! No sign of Larry again,...so far anyway. Hope he hasn't had a dose of this bloomin' flu bug that's been going the rounds. It's a funny old flu this, I still haven't got my appetite back, and even my taste buds are not really as they should be, but we are much better than we were the couple of weeks after Christmas. It's tea time now, so will look in later. |

How do Fussy m8,sorry you missed me last week,I did come down here but I could'nt use the computer because their electrics had been knocked out by the storms Looks like there's still a few glitches this week too,I typed out a longish message earlier on trhen as I was just about to click to post it everything went off and I had to start all over again dammit I'm happy to see your post though, when I started typing that first message the last post from you was dated the 24th so I was a bit worried.I was glad to see your new post when I got back in,if the leccy had'nt gone off my post would have been on here before yours. That flu of yours sounds like a buggar Fussy m8,it must be 6 weeks since you first mentioned it because it was before Xmas if I remember right,do'nt think I've ever heard of ordinary flu lasting that long, maybe you've got one of those new strains that keep popping up.It must be very wearing having it go on for so long and not even being able to taste your food properly for all those weeks, hope you'll be completely recovered soon m8 |

Larry, and anyone else,
Ooooooooh! Sorry to have been absent for so long these last few weeks. Apart from not feeling in the mood for much computing, I was 'kidnapped' by one of my grandsons,...he took me away in his car for a few days, to stay in his place. I couldn't argue with him 'cos he's 54 years younger than me, so I had to shut-up and do as he said. Ho! Ho! Liz and me are much better now, but it seems a slow recovery from that blasted flu. Whatever it was, it was a nasty bit of work, 'cos I've had the flu jab every year since the early 90s and have never had the flu in all those years, so as you say Larry it must have been a strain that nipped through the net. Will pop in here again tomorrow. |

Never a dull moment, eh! Now we've got this perishing bird flu to contend with. I've just been feeding my flock here in my little garden, robins, blackbirds, sparrows, doves and the odd pigeon. Larry, you are a man of the land,...how safe am I from this menace? Oooooh! It's frightening innit. Ho! Ho! Ho! |

I'm not all that wellup on this bird flu Fussy, I could tell you a bit more if it was scrapie or sheep scab or foot rot or some other sheep ailment,LOL I do know that it can be spread by chicken s*** and we have'nt got any chickens here, but it can also come from migratory water birds and we do see quite a lot of those passing this way,so it is a bit worrying. At least with something like Foot and mouth disease it's easier to contain because cows stay in one place and do'nt fly,but birds are a lot harder to keep track of Lets hope they come up with a way of curing it because it would be a tragedy if they had to start culling all our wild birds. Anyways, where did your grandson carry you off to Fussy m8 ? Was it somewhere warm and sunny like the Riviera or the Carribean ? I would'nt mind being carried off to one of those places away from all this mud. Mind you,it's been quite nice today,so maybe an early Spring is on the way |

Oooooh! Just missed you again Larry. I was watching our boys being beaten by the boys from the Emerald Isle, and as soon as that was over my better-half had the tea on the table, so I had to obey the orders...'tea is ready.' You are right Larry, it would be a damn shame if they had to cull our wild birds. Let's hope it won't come to that eh! What a pity, them having to gas nearly a quarter of a million birds innit. It'll make a bit of a dent in the Bernard Matthews finances,...not to be laughed at, is it. Quiet on here, as usual. BTW, I had a peep at your website one day last week. Nice one Larry. Well laid out M8.

They say,...if you squeeze your left big toe in the right spot, you will sort any problems you have in the left side of your head. And if you squeeze your right big toe in the right spot, you will sort out any problems you have in the right side of your head. Sounds feasible to me. So, if any of you out there think you are going 'off your rocker,' don't worry,...just give your big toe a bit of a squeeze.

Well, would you believe it. We haven't had any snow here, but I bet it's drifting in parts of Aberdare. Oooooooh! It's cold innit, I'm bloomin' freezing aye! Hey Bob, what do you mean...you don't need a bus pass. Ho! Ho! Looking at the weather forecast map on TV today, I noticed that there was a big patch of white covering most of Wales and the Midlands, but Pemb's seemed clear of snow. I wonder if Pauline has escaped being snowed in?

Mmmmm thanks for that Fussy, it slipped down a treat, just wgat the doctor ordered but you must know something about Kilgetty that I do'nt becos I ca'nt remember any la-de-da pubs there when I lived in the area!LOL Well well, looks like I witched it last week when I said Spring was on the way, all that snow came as a bit of a surprise did'nt it half the roads round here were blocked with it and the milk tanker had a hell of a job getting through Btw Fussy, I notice you mentioned my website last week, I wish I could take the credit for it m8 but it's the Folly Farm site, I used it as my homepage when I was working there because I did'nt have one of my own and I've just never got round to removing it. Have you ever been to Folly Farm in your travels to Pembrokeshire ? It's a great place to visit, wish I was still there |

Glad you liked the Baileys Larry. Smooooooooth innit! Keeps lamb's wool in tip-top condition. Ho! Ho! Ho! No, I've never walked through Kilgetty, but I've driven through it many times over the years. Doesn't surprise me that they don't have a La-Di-Da pub there mind, but it wouldn't surprise me if big changes had taken place there. You can never tell these days. I can remember Liz and me many years ago, touring the south of England in my Mini Cooper, and we'd doss down for the night in a guest house somewhere, maybe Dorchester or Looe, and it would be about a tenner for the two of us, with breakfast thrown in as well. I don't think we'd be so lucky these days though,...not even in Kilgetty. Ho! Ho! But you never know now, even little places like Kilgetty can have some La-Di-Da prices these days. No, haven't been to Folly Farm, but we are making a few trips to Pemb's later this summer, so we will definitely call there, and have a look-see! Take care M8, see you next Sunday.

HELLO! there. Knock, knock, knock, knock. Ding a ling, ding a ling, ding a ling, ding a ling.
Ooooooo! No-one at home again, eh! Well, I might as well have a quick word with myself, I suppose. How's life Fussy? Not too bad mun,...a damn sight better than it was over Christmas and the 5 weeks after that. Shows how bad things were these last couple of months, I've still got 3 X 1 litre bottles of Baileys here, unopened yet, 'cos during that bloomin' flu session I couldn't even attempt a tot of the stuff. I wouldn't have tasted it anyway, 'cos the taste buds had emigrated to the Southern Hemisphere.
So long, for now. I'll bang the door, and ring the bell again tomorrow.

Been busy spring cleaning our kitchen, ready for the arrival of a new cooker next week. Our old cooker gave up, and 'kicked the bucket' earlier this week, so we thought we'd give the place a bit of a lift, to welcome the new boy.
Not been a nice day here today,....miserable looking, and raining.
BTW, don't forget to give me fair warning Pauline, when you decide to cash in your chips.

Sorry if I've missed iw today Larry. I'm up to my neck in kitchen units, and moving this and moving that 'cos we've got to prepare the space for our new cooker, which is due to arrive in a couple of days time. The new one is bloomin' 2 and a 1/2 cm wider than our old one, so you can guess that I've had to reset the blinkin' lot.
Hope to see you next Sunday M8. |

Oh for goodness sake do'nt go cashing in your chips gel, hang on to them for dear life. Things might not be looking too good at the moment but who knows whats round the corner? You could be dealt a winning hand in the next round and then you'd be sorry you'd left the game too early
Are'nt new cookers a hell of a price these days Fussy mate we're a bit limited for choice here,we have'nt got the space for anything fancy, but even an ordinary little calor gas cooker seems to cost a lot more than they did a few years back, not to mention the price of the bloomin gas-tanks If prices keep on going up I think we might go back to the old days of cooking over a camp-fire outside the door! LOL |

How do Fussy m8, that last message was'nt there when I arrived so you must have posted it while I was busytyping mine(and you had plenty of time for it because I'm probably the worlds slowest typist) Sounds like you've got a big job on your hands there m8.That's one thing I do'nt have to worry about,ca'nt change our kitchen layout--there's nowhere to move it to One of the disadvantages (or possibly advantages if you do'nt like diy ) of living in a caravan |

'ow're iw doin' Fussy? Well, to tell the truth, I'm on my last legs after all the work getting the kitchen ready for the arrival of the cooker tomorrow. Then I suppose I'll be wrecking my brains out, reading the instruction book on how to operate the thing. One needs a diploma in science these days to keep up with all the fancy things that can be done with all these mod' thingies. Ho! Ho! Still, we'll get by,...by hook or by crook.
What are you doing tonight Fussy? Well, I'm going to settle down in my settee, and watch these Man'Utd millionaires kicking a bag of wind around, and at the same time I think I'll have a few tots of, you know what.

'ow're iw doin' Fussy?
Ho! Ho! We've got a new cooker mun, so look out from now on. My better-half has promised super-duper meals. I've just been reading the instruction manual, and by the look of things I may have to go on a course to learn and remember all the do's and dont's. Ho! Ho! Ho! So, if you don't hear from me for about 6 months, you can guess that I'm studying.

'ow're iw doin' Fuss? Pretty good mun! Been on a cooker course. Got through the first part (reading and understanding) the diagrams. Achieved 3 out of 10 for that. I am now studying 'how to set the timer,' and hope to pass that part after a couple of weeks at it. Then there's the pages of - you must Do this and you must NOT do that, which, in effect...is a memory test. I hope to pass the full course within the next few weeks. Ho! Ho! Ho!
Quiet on here, innit! There's more life in my little garden,...my little Robin friend is almost eating out of my hand.

'ow're iw doin Fuss? Well, a bit lonely like,...I keep looking back to see if anyone's about, but there's no sign of a single bod mun. I've got a good mind to book a flight to the Maldives, and if I take a fancy to the place I might stay there. But no, on second thoughts, I quite like my little nook up here 'cos it's cwtchy like, and as long as I've got my bottle of Baileys at arms length I think I'll stay where I am. Also, had some ear-splitting, exciting news through the post today,...my pension goes up by a couple of quid in April, so, looks as if I'll be able to afford to pay SOME of the increases that are bound to happen in one thing and another from now on. Ho! Ho! Ho! Big deal!

I had a good look at your site TG. Ooooooh! Eerie innit. That sinister sound sent me scurrying for my Baileys, to calm my nerves No, seriously M8, it's a cracking site. I've had a good look at it several times before, and the pics of the Gloucestershire and Oxon Churches are superb. And as you say there's a feeling of peace and tranquility in a graveyard anyway. I read the other day about a gang of vile morons who'd smashed dozens of headstones and ruined numerous grave structures in a cemetery somewhere. That kind of willful, mindless damage drives me livid, and I'd have no hesitation in shoving them in front of a firing squad. That's the big trouble these days TG,...there's hardly any punishment dished out to these sadistic yobs. Take care M8.

Anyway, in case you are 'roughing it' somewhere,...have a tot on me M8. Go get your glass, quick. Right then, hold it steady now, here goes, blwb, blwb, blwb, blwb, blwb, blwb, blwb, blwb. You've got a double Baileys there Larry, sip it slowwwwwwwly now, make it last half an hour. Smoooooooooth innit. That would knock 'iw back about a tenner in a La-Di-Da pub in St Davids. Ho! Ho! Ho!

Yeah, I had a bit of a fright last Sunday too Larry. I also had funny thoughts, as the Forum had that 'orrible notice 'Forum is blocked,'on it, and I felt a bit sad at the time, as I thought the ForumCo had finished operating, or gone bust, but then on Monday we were back to normal.

Well, yab-a-daba-doo! I've spent the last hour and ? minutes reading through our Mag 7 thriller again, and I'm not kidding....I've laughed myself hoarse. It is soooooooo funny! It is absolutely amazing what can be conjured up by a dozen or so individuals, when pushed to reply to various comical situations encountered, while impersonating a gang of cowboys in the Wild West. Ho! Ho! Ho!
Well, I think I'll push-off for suppies now.
Pauline, Before I go,....another day on this box and I haven't been cut-off. Now, that is AMAZING 'cos this broadband has cut me off 3 or 4 times a day for the last 18 months, until about 10 days ago, since when I haven't been interrupted atall. Hope I haven't spoken too soon! |

Get Rover to hold your glass for you,...(I'm dying to convert you aye,) Hold it steady now Rover, blwb, blwb, blwb, blwb. That's a single Baileys. I'm not risking giving you a double 'cos you might turn your nose up at it, and it's too b****y expensive to waste. Sip it nice and slowwwwwwwwwly now Bob. Smooooooooooth innit! Ho! Ho! Ho! Well, I looked around again, but there's no sign of company, so I'll just have a quick few words with my friend again. 'ow're iw doin' Fuss?....Fair to middling like, but down in the mouth a bit, 'cos the Italians knocked the stuffing out of our boys this afternoon. I bet Servinis, Ferraris and Sidolis are all smiling in their little shops in the old town,...that is if they are still there. When I prowled the town back in the 30s, they were all there, and also Carpanini, Paul Mascherpa in Canon St, and Cardinali in Commercial St,....you could say, it was a kind of miniature Rome. Ho! Ho! Ho!

I'm not sure what sort of a day it was here because I seem to have slept through most of it It was O.K. this morning when I fetched the milk in, but then I took the post upstairs and nodded off again and the next thing I knew it was late afternoon and almost dark, so whatever the weather was like in between I missed it Come to think of it, it DID feel a bit chilly in the bedroom though
One of the Servini brothers (I can't remember his first name, but he was the good-looking one with white hair and he had the shop between Victor Freeds and the Co-op)) used to own a caravan in Amroth and we'd sometimes see him and his wife (at least, I assume it was his wife !) around and about in the Summer. In those days my Mother used to have a Servini's carrier that she kept in her bag for emergencies and if she was carrying it when she ran into them it always raised a smile. She used to joke that she ought to be paid for publicising the place ! |

I'm not sure, but after wracking my brains I THINK his name might have been Aldo ?
You can add Fecci, Negrotti and Fulgoni to that list, among many others - and let us not forget the original one that gave the nickname to all the ones that followed - Bracchis ! Fulgonis were down in Aberaman as I recall, and they made gorgeous Ice-cream which my Mother's cousin Doll Jones also used to sell in her shop in Cwmgwrach. Come to think of it, that's something that crazynance could use for her book ! As far as I can recall almost every Cafe and Fish & Chip Shop in Aberdare was Italian owned back in the 50's, the only one I can think of that wasn't was Miss Lewis's place on the corner of Bute Street and Cross Street. |

Like I said before I'm a bit too young to remember the 50s but I do remember that in my younger days there were still a lot of cafes and fish shops around with Italian names over the door, and not just in Aberdare either, they seemd to be in just about every town you went to back then.I used to wonder why so many Italians chose to live in Wales. I suppose some of them might havr been Italian prisoners of war who married local girls and never went home, but like Fussy says a lot of them were already over here before the war in the 1930s,so why did they come here in such droves? I can understand why so many of them emigrated to America because there was the possibility of big money to be made over there (especially for people like like Al Capone and his cronies.LOL ) but what the heck was there to draw them to little old Wales? |

But, I'm better today. Had a funny day yesterday, headache, and feeling too bloomin' tired to even talk to myself. Ho! Ho!
I don't remember seeing Italians by the name of Fecci and Negrotti in the old town Pauline,...they probably nipped in after WWII, eh! But I do remember Fulgoni, as you say, they were in Aberaman. They were all a likeable people. I got to know several of them as they used to pop in to Halfords fairly frequently. Guido Cardinali, whose father had the cafe down the bottom end of Commercial St, used to spend hours in our shop. He was about 20 years old and loved bikes, and Hornby Railway kits. Then there was Paul Mascherpa who had a cafe opposite Ferraris but a little bit further down Canon St. He was a big man, and well over 6ft, and wouldn't tolerate any nonsense from youngsters who would play-up a little. Any noisy yobs (and fair play, there were few of them in those days) would be told, OUT!!! And out they'd go, 'cos they'd be too afraid to answer him back. Ho! Ho! It was a pleasure to nip in to Paul's for a coffee, 'cos it was peaceful there, more often than not. Yes, you are right, their ice-cream was delicious,...as a matter of fact it was unique. Innit funny, nobody (other than Italians) seemed to be able to copy the recipe, no matter where you went in the country. BTW, am I right in thinking that I've read somewhere recently, that Ferraris are packing-in, or gone bust or something? Toodlepip for now.

Where's crazynance then? Gone to the Canadian Rockies, perhaps. Or perhaps she's living up to her ambitions, and has her head buried in her notes for the novel of the 50s.
Yes, you are right Pauline, crazynance could use the facts about the 'Bracchis' when she dabbles with her novel. They (the Italians) were taken as internees, and many of them were shipped to the USA. A great pity really, 'cos they certainly were not war mongers. But then, the same thing happened to many other nationalities throughout the world during that horrendous time.
Toodlepip for now. |

Just heard on the BBC News on tele,....the vicar of St Fagans church in Trecynon was stabbed to death outside the church, this afternoon. A 23 year old man has been arrested. It is difficult to comprehend, such a tragic thing happening in such a small village as Trecynon. |

Well, I looked back to see if anyone was hanging about, but it's dead as a door-nail on here, so I'll buzz off to watch football on ITV1.
Back later! |
