I've been thinking of all you friends of mine out there, and I'm always concerned for your well-being, and your financial worries.
So, here's a simple tip to cut your expences from today.
Listen to Fussy, 'cos Fussy knows.....From today on, don't forget to switch off all your electrics at the mains plug. Don't just switch off the computer, printer, TV, heater, radio, etc 'cos they will only be on standby, and that will cost you quite a lot of pennies in 12 months.
Don't say...I didn't warn you!!! Ho! Ho! Ho! I'm always spoiling you lot, aye.

Well our telly and radio run on batteries Fussy, so the main worry I have is getting them recharged. The missis would be hopping mad if the telly conked out in the middle of one of her soaps, I'd end up with a Lol

Are you running things off a generator? Well, I can see that you don't have to worry about dirty great big Electricity Bills then.

Generators are very handy, I had one going in my litlle workshop back in the 60s.

We listen well to your advice on saving electric,we will have to cut down some how as the price is rocketing up .
We try to be more aware of making sure we switch of all lights and gadgets that are not needed .We use to put on the computer in the morning and it would be on all day long ,now it only goes on if we have something to look up or write on the forums.
We sit and watch TV in the dark ,only boil enough water in the kettle for two drinks .We are becoming real misers.

Fussy
If the finacial situation gets much worse you will have to stop buying Baileys.

Larry
Would it work out cheaper to have a generator I'm think of going back to using candles for light and a coal fire to boil the kettle on , in my grans house the big black kettle was always simmering on the hob at the side of the fire.
She had a big black leaded range with an oven one side and a tank for heating water on the other ,we use to have to get the water out with a tin jug to wash the dishes. We have things really cushy these days.
Are you all going to be watching BBC 1 Wales 8.30 on monday they are doing a program " Coal house at War" about the 1940's should be good.

Glad you are economising on the electrics BG. It's surprising how the charges shoot up when all those switches are left on all day.

I'm economising on Baileys now, I'm on singles now,...every other day.
Ho! Ho!

Yes, we'll be watching BBC tomorrow night,...it will bring back memories to me of Cwmdare in the 20s/30s. Yeah, I well remember the old fireplace with the oven on one side, and a kettle of hot water always at the ready on the other side. And mam used to have what we called a plank for baking welshcakes placed across the top of the fire when making about 6 dozen of them at a time. With my brother Bill working in the Gorllwyn Drift, we used to get a ton of coal for 5/-. Some days they were, eh!

Those were the days when M worked down the pit as a fitter we use to get a ton of coal free every 2 months I think it was.
The worst of it though was having to barrow the whole lot from the front of the house down to the coal shed in the back garden me oh my that was a long path we had.
Gosh we must have been fit in those days ,we would have a job pushing an empty barrow now.

Yeah, it was all hands on deck to carry the coal in to the coalhouse.
But we were lucky in that respect because we had a back lane in Bryn Tce, so it was dumped just outside the lane doorstep, so we only had to heave it in a couple of yards to the coalhouse.
Good grief,...the changes in our lifestyle since those days are unbelievable. I can remember gas lighting, and then paraffin lamps.
Just think,...we never even dreamt about telly, electric light and microwaves and washing machines.
By comparison, we are living in sheer luxury today, aren't we!

Tell M, that I remember the radio broadcasts on football matches from Ninian Park and Wembley and other grounds, where the commentator had an accomplice who used to chip in from time to time during the commentary and say...Square 4. The Radio times in those days had a little pic of a football pitch which was marked in 4 sections, so when he said Square 2 you knew where the play was at that moment.
H0! Ho! Ho!

Life has changed dramatically from our younger days and not always for the better I feel.

M cannot remember the football commentaries you mention he is not quite as old as you ,and when they were on maybe he was not really interested in football still playing with toy soldiers or sucking his dummy .LOL

Bad news folks!
My PC has been infected by a bloomin' spyware called Adware. My Address book, all my e-mails since 2004, my e-mail address book with about 70 addresses in it have all been wiped off.
So you may not hear much from me, until I've tackled the problem, cos it looks as if I've got a hell of a job on sorting this out.

Just my bloomin' luck!!!

If I did have one I expect the rest of the family would be using it more than me anyway. While I was out slogging in the fields from morning til night in all weathers, they'd all be sat in the warm ordering groceries online, or buying things they do'nt need on ebay, and spending my hard-earned dosh faster than I can make it, so maybe I'm better off without one after all

YAB A DAB A DOO!

I've managed to get my e-mail Address Book back, so I'm now on the warpath to getting about 800 e-mails back and a few other files and programmes.
And, when I catch the Spyware who caused all the havoc, I'm going to throttle him and dump him down Bwllfa No1 pit.

Yeah, I know...there's no pit there anymore, but I'll get a kick out of thinking that it's still there.

Can't tell you how glad I am, to have sorted out all those bloomin' infections.
I also learned a few amazing facts during my delving into things. Shook me, to learn that EVERY computer on the planet is infected in a variety of ways, but mostly not harmful. But the little scamp that attacked my PC was a wicked little b****r, 'cos he collared all my e-mails from 2003, and my Address book which had all my e-mail addresses in it, and more.
You don't realise how big a loss it is, until it happens. Your PC just seems empty.
Anyway, I'm back to square 1 now.

A few facts:

Only one word in the English language that begins and ends with 'und': underground.

8 pints of milk are needed to make 1lb of Cheddar cheese.

19-19-19 are the vital statistics of Olive Oyl - the cartoon character Popeye's girlfriend.

A koala sleeps 22 hours a day.

There are 32 calories in 100ml of beer (both bitter and Guinness), 40 calories in lager, gin and vodka is 222, sherry is 136, white wine 74, champagne is 76 and...wait for it,...leading the field is - YES Baileys at 360 calories. Ho! Ho! Ho!...Take note Bob.

They are very interesting Statistics

I think M must be a Koala.LOL

Wish I was Olive oyl ,you can add another 20 inches on those measurments for me.

I spoke too soon when I said we were better as this past 2 days we have had the stomach bug. We just did not fancy any food at all ,if it carries on I will end up like Olive Oyl.

I think they are wrong taking away the speed cameras and replacing them with signs to cut your speed ,they tried that and speed humps and 20 mph speed limit on the main road just down from us and it did not work at all, so they have now made it narrow and wide strips alternate ( very Weird) and put up 30mph signs at each end of the road and that is not working either. It cost them a fortune to do it .

Speed cameras are the bestI think.

Oh dear! Sorry that you've got a tummy bug. There are a lot of funny old bugs going the rounds at the moment. Some of our family are affected by colds too. Liz and me have had a kind of mild cold last week but it didn't develop into anything worse, thank goodness.

No, I can't see you 39-39-39. It doesn't look right somehow. Ho! Ho! Ho! Perhaps M would look more that figure.

It's been cold and windy here today, and raining cats and dogs. Did you ever say that way back? Raining cats and dogs, Daft, innit!

Hope Pauline is OK time she popped in here to let us know.

For that 39-39-39 you can take 10 inches of the middle measurements and thats me .LOL
M is a few inches more all over.

Yesterday here was a shocking day too just like middle of winter.

Clocks go back tomorrow so an extra hour in bed for us, but I don't like the evenings getting darker.

We use to say raining cats and dogs too.
I think it came from way back when houses had thatch on the roof and the cats and dogs use to sleep up there. But when it rained it got slippery and they all fell of down to earth hence "Raining cats and dogs".
Another saying we had was the rains coming down like stair rods ,dead straight.
Do you remember the old stair rods ,they are back in fashion again as they have them in the carpet shops. We never use to cover the whole tread with carpet just a strip down the middle the empty sides were real dust gatherers.

Ho! Ho! Yes, the rain coming down like stair rods. And just a strip of carpet down the middle of the stairs, and a coat of paint to the rest of the treads.
And the old pantry in the kitchen, and the kitchen table with two drawers, which I used to keep my school pencils and books in, and comics...Tiger Tim, Bubbles, Beano, Dandy and Film Fun....
Happy days, nevertheless!

I saw that on the news that the weather is going to turn really cold ,it said on Wednesday London could have sleet showers.

Wonder are we in for a bad winter like 1963. Better start stocking up the freezer for the big freeze.
Just how did we manage without fridges and freezers years ago the first house we lived in we only had a cold stone shelf in the pantry to keep things cool.

It is pouring with rain here today .

Yes, you reminded me there BG. The old slate cold slab in the pantry, I'd almost forgotten that.
I bet Larry wouldn't have experienced anything like that,...it was a bit before his time.
And I always remember Mam putting sheets of newspaper down on the carpet in the parlour during the weekday, to save soiling it, and taking it up on the Sunday, 'cos we'd have a fire lit in the parlour every Sunday, as our minister Jones (Nebo) would most likely call for a chat and a cuppa (or a wine.) He was a lovely man. I think I did tell you a few years ago about the time when I was about 3 or 4 years old, I dropped a tin of gramaphone needles on the floor, and I shouted at him...'pick 'em up Jones' and he knelt down on his knees and did as he was told. Ho! Ho! Ho!
I don't actually remember that myself, but my parents often reminded me of my cheeky behaviour.

Well! What a carry-on. Those two BBC...lewd, vulgar morons should be axed for good, and never be allowed any kind of job for the rest of their lives. And to think that one of them gets paid a salary of £6,000,000 is absolutely outrageous. It's utterly disgraceful that a filthy minded individual like him is allowed to use filthy expressions on TV before or after 9pm. I heard him use some bad language on a programme some years ago, and I decided then never to watch his show in future, and I never have.
He's a sick individual. And the other one is also a sick, weak scruffy yob.

Yeah, I thought so! Typical of the BBC, no guts to sack him! More than one of it's programmes have been overstepping the mark for several years now.
I never watch the sick filth they spill out on some of their sick pathetic programmes.
I'm happy watching a bit of sport and some wildlife shows, and to be fair, there are several other very good programmes that I enjoy.
I can't understand why the so-called heads of the company allow these low morons to authorize broadcasting such muck.

Yeah, there's a lot on TV that's a disgrace to society, and a hell of a lot of it is the cause of the decline in decent behaviour by a great number of the young people of today.
I'm not a prude, but I'm convinced that SOME youngsters from a very young age are, without doubt, influenced by the bad language and criminal activities they see on the telly,...and emulate it in their teens.

Oooooh, he's cheeky isn't he BG. He can be very nosy on times, especially if he's sober (which is bloomin' rare.)
He's a lot more sociable when he's had a few too many. But his spelling never changes.
I remember about 5 years ago, Rover posted on here and his spelling was bloomin' spot-on. I've always been baffled by that BG.

Bob
The clock on here is about an hour slow so not that early really .
But I had to get on line early as I was looking after my grandson today and once he gets on the computer I don't stand a chance.

Pauline,
We are getting confused by the clock being 1 hour slow,...Any hopes of your technical brain doing the necessary?

Hope you are feeling better.

Another joke.

A man taking his driving test was asked, 'What action would you take if you saw a car ahead of you with the driver's arm protruding from the window?
Man or woman? he asked.

Hand signals are something you never see now ,are they no longer part of the highway code.

No, you don't see any driver using hand signals these days. But, if the electrics were to fail he or she would have to signal their intentions, so if it were me I'd use them and hope the young drivers -who had never experienced them - would catch-on. I would think that the hand signal for turning left (forward circles of your right hand) would fox some of them. Ho! Ho!

Well, they can't have had enough last night, 'cos Guy Fawkes is on the prowl again tonight.
Makes you wonder,...where do these people get the cash for all these fun things, and they're not cheap, and how do the young football fans manage to pay 20 and 50 quid and more, to see a match. And thousands of them are able to follow their team abroad to Spain, Italy and even to Moscow and many other Moscows.
Good grief! I'm living in another world!!!

So I've just defragmented the thing,- it took 3 bloomin' hours, so I hope it's helped,...innit funny, it's not been the same since I had that Spyware brat last week.

I am having problems today too ,not with the computer itself but with the monitor ,it just keeps fading and then going off.
If I give it a few bangs on the side it comes on again.Must be something loose in it.

Do you remember we use to give our old TV's a bash on the top if they did not work properly.LOL

It's been emptying down here and gale force winds.

Another good Remembrance programme this morning, and I thought that the 3 veterans were brave to turn up and face the cold weather.

It's bloomin' cold here again today, but the wind has dropped and it's not raining, so we can at least cope with the cold by wrapping up well.

Where are my sparrows? I used to have dozens of them around my patch here, but they have suddenly disappeared and there are only a few to be seen these days. The farmers are using pesticides to kill off insects etc, so that could be one reason for the decline of many birds.

It was very brave of those three veterans from the first world war to brave the elements yesterday.Strange that they were from the three armed forces.

The birds do seem to be on the decline around here too ,we use to have lots of birds in the garden but there are not so many now. Could be because we have a sparrow hawk that visits most days. But our little robin is still here just hope the sparrow hawk does not get him one day.

BG,
The little robin is a regular visitor here too, but as I said...the sparrows are gone.
If you come across some fat little sparrows around your way, send them packing,...they are probably mine. Tell them to follow the M4 and look for the exit to S'sea.

Well,...fairish like, you know.
Quiet on here, innit!
Yeah, well I suppose folk are busy with one thing and another, families visiting from time to time, and odd jobs to be done around the house. I'm up to my neck in it at the moment,..gutterings and general bits and pieces to tidy up.
Good to be alive though, innit!
And I'm keeping a beady eye on this box of tricks, and trying to make sure I don't get any more boomin' invaders.

Glad to hear you are doing alright ,It is quiet on here at the moment,it will be quieter still come Sunday for a couple of days .
We are having our carpets fitted on Monday so Sunday we have to shift all the furniture out of two rooms and the bits we have in the Hallway. So computer has to be disconnected again.
Gawd knows where we will put it all as the garage is pretty full as it is .
The troops are coming over to help us as we just cannot manage it on our own.

Sorry we ever started doing it ,it is too much upheavel for a pair of old codgers like us.
Spent today painting the little room we have at the back of the house where we keep the fridge and freezer and all sorts of clutter ,I am now shattered.

BG,
I can well imagine the topsy turvy state the old house gets in, when carpets have to be laid. Everything is shipped all over the place and makes one hell of a clutter.
And the mere fact that one is not 21 anymore adds to the 'battle of the bulge.' The last time we tackled that 'little job' was 10 years ago, and the carpets have lasted very very well, thank goodness. We did the bathroom the other day, so we are OK now regards any interior dec's.

You are very wise TG, because apart from saving a huge few bob on the prices of carpets...it's a far healthier way of life. We folk are constantly reminded of the little devils that hibernate in carpets and are the cause of many nasty little ailments.

Not too keen on wooden flooring myself my daughters new house has it ,I think it makes the rooms very cold.
Carpets seem much cosier.
Each to their own choice though.

Been back and fore helping family for most of this week, but I have peeped in here a few times, but no time to post.
We now have an addition to our family....a baby daughter. That makes it 7 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.

Yeah, I often put my hands together and whisper to myself.....how bloomin' lucky we are.

I don't believe it!!!
Just heard on the news that...that BBC moron is not going to lose his job after all. I think it is absolutely disgusting that those senior officials at the BBC allow these obscene goings-on to be transmitted atall,....never mind whether it is after or before nine o'clock.
I'm certainly no prude myself, but, for goodness sake no decent person would carry on like these vile individuals in front of millions of viewers. The two yobs concerned have shown themselves to be....the lowest of the low.
And, isn't it unbelievabe that one of them should be paid 16, or is it 18 million pounds to dish out such filth.
I'm sorry, but certain values of this country have sunk to the gutter,
in more ways than one. Shameful!!!

It is disgusting that Ross is to keep his job and the money he gets paid is shocking to say the least.
It is time that a lot of the programs on TV that go way over the top with obsenities and bad language were censured more.

Another person I don't like is Terry Wogan ,he comes on the Children in Need Program asking us to donate our money to the charity but he will not appear on there unless he gets his £9.000 fee for the night.
All the other celebreties that appear on there do it for free.

If the BBC did not pay the entertainers such disgustingly high wages we could all have much cheaper TV licences.

Why I wonder can't we buy TV's that don't pick up BBC then we would not need a licence at all. LOL

In the past 40/50/60/70s the BBC was a highly respected broadcaster, but not so these last 20 odd years. They've been critisized for breaking the rules of decency many times. I fail to understand how these idiots - who are supposedly middle aged - can't see the folly of their ways.

Your right there Fussy, I'm no prude, I'll laugh at a rude joke with the rest of them, but there's a time and a place for that sort of stuff. Some of the things you hear on the telly these days would make your hair curl It might not be so bad if they confined it to very late at night, but it seems to creep into everything these days, even kids programmes, and it's especially embarrasing when your sitting there with the kids and one of them asks 'what does that word mean Dad?' I never know where to put myself It really is time the tv companies cleaned up their act
