But there's a chap comes in here some sundays who knows a bit of the lingo and when he had a look over my shoulder he said he thought your German spelling was ok. |

Good grief,...it's the 1st of May tomorrow. These past 4 months have nipped by.
It's amazing how fast life seems to travel these days. When I was a toddler, one day was endless, or so it appeared to be because take a Saturday for instance,...you'd step on your scooter at 8 in the morning and go cavorting around the streets in Cwmdare till about 10 o'clock, then kick a ball at the pine end of a house in Bryn Tce for an hour, (if you didn't have a ball you'd make one by rolling newspapers and brown paper bags into a ball and tying the thing up with string.) Then after playing on the swings, and maybe an hour playing cricket in the Children's Corner (by the Welfare Hall) it would be time for a quick lunch. It would now be about 1 o'clock, so I'd call on a couple of mates, and we'd go down Dare Inn, up past Pit Head and up to Penrhiwllech and on to The Darran. We would dig our secret safes in The Darran...a 4 inch square X about 6 inches deep hole in the earth, line it with stones and some twigs across the top.
Then we'd put a halfpenny in the hole and lay the grass clod on the twigs as a camouflage. Ho! Ho!
Then, in about a month's time we'd go up there again to see if our secret safes had been discovered, which was a thrilling exciting time for us at the age of 7 or 8. We did this many times BTW, and no-one ever found our secret,...the halfpenny was always there. I don't think many people wandered up to The Darran anyway. But there were plenty of sheep up there so it's amazing that they hadn't nudged the clods on the safes.
So. as I said earlier one seemed to do an awful lot more in those by-gone days. Kids sit in front of the box these days and soak up a lot of nonsense (and some good I suppose) and 3 or 4 hours or more of their day has shuffled into thin air.

Beacon Girl and Moonraker won the lottery and had a huge mansion built on the Brecon Beacons, and moved back to live there.
