I spent part of this afternoon exploring two websites purporting to give Information about Wales, and it's left me feeling grumpy and outraged !
On the first site I was informed that Saint David, patron Saint of Wales was originally an Irishman ! On the second site I read the equally amazing 'fact' that he was said to come from Scotland !
Where the H*** do they find these so-called 'Facts' ? Surely it's pretty well documented that David was the son of the Welsh Princess Non, and that she gave birth to him on the Pembrokeshire Coast at the place (a few miles from the city of St. Davids) which is now called St. Nons in her honour ?
I've been to St. David's many times and also visited St. Non's Chapel and Holy Well out on the coast, but never once have I heard or read ANYTHING which even suggested that David was anything other than a Welshman born and bred !
( Do you think we should take up arms and hang, draw and quarter the people who start these scurrilous rumours ? )

I think a lot of what was written about history has to be taken with a pinch of salt .It was originally written in Latin or Gaelic and has lost a lot of it's true facts and has become distorted in the translation of it into english.
I still think St David was Welsh .

O.K. then ! I have taken up the Gauntlet ! ( That's a picture of it above ) Tomorrow I shall polish up my suit of Armour, get a couple of gallons of petrol for my Red Dragon ( for the fire-breathing I mean---he doesn't run on petrol ! LOL ) and together we shall sally forth ( or maybe fifth as I don't move as fast these days ) and do battle with these daft little twerps who have besmirched the reputation of our own Dewi Sant !

Just thought I'd give you an update.
I E-mailed both the sites I mentioned and had a reply from one of them. He said that if I could show him proof of David's birthplace he would amend the details on his site, so I sent him a link to a site containing the following:-
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
St. Non (born c.AD 475)
(Latin-Nonita, English-Nonna)
Lady Non was the most notorious daughter of Lord Cynyr Ceinfarfog of Caer Goch. She was a nun at Ty Gwyn near Whitesands Bay (Dyfed) who was seduced, if not raped, by Prince Sandde of Ceredigion in the latter years of the 5th century. The poor pregnant girl went into hiding and ended up giving birth at Caerfai, on the coast just south of Mynyw (St. Davids), in the middle of a violent storm. During the birth, Non pressed her fingers so hard into a boulder beside her that she left their impression in the rock. A baby boy was born in a sea of brilliant light and the boulder was split in two by a dramatic lightning strike! Non named her son Dewi and he became the greatest saint in all of Britain (St. David). A chapel was built where Dewi was born and its ruins can still be seen there today. St. Non's Well, sporting her statue, is nearby.
Non brought Dewi up at Henfeynyw near Aberaeron and together they founded a nunnery at Llanon nearby. In later years, she moved to Cerniw to be near her sister, St. Wenna. Non sent out some oxen to drag her portable altar to the place where she would live. They stopped at Altarnon, where she settled down and founded a monastery. Non eventually retired to Brittany and settled in Dirinon in Finistère. Here she set up a third monastery, where she finally died on 3rd March. Her shrine can still be seen in the parish church today.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Had an E-mail back from him in which he promised to change the information he has on his website, so I'll be checking back there in a few days to see if he's kept his word !
The other one hasn't replied at all yet.

Anyone wantto hear my whacked out theory on the history of the Welsh? I reckon your patron saint is St David by no accident.. look up biblical references to David.. dark, curly hair, poetic, singer.. passionate.. etc... sounds Welsh to me.. think the Welsh could be related ??? just a midnight theory.. feel free to shoot it down ( but it is a compliment..)

Oops, a faux pas (that's French for a mistake! Impressed or what??? ) on my behalf.

I meant to say that I read somewhere that St Pat was Welsh. Only thing is, don't tell the Irish whatever you do. They can be quite touchy with things like that!

BTW, did you know that St George is also the patron saint of Malta and Turkey as well as of England? There was talk a while ago of England changing its patron saint from St George to St Alban, as Alban was, apparently, English, unlike Georgy Boy.

I thought it was strange you did not say anything !!!! thought you weren't my friend any more .
I don't think we can believe half of what is said about History . Yesterday is history and by today some of the actual facts of what happened or what was said yesterday will have changed slightly already .No one will every ever know the truth of long gone past history .
