Ooh, if I'd known you were going to Salisbury you could have popped in to the Dog's Trust to see my Sponsor Dog (although come to think of it, I don't think he's allowed visitors) Tell the pussies and dog you're looking after that Sophie and Sadie said 'Hello'

I'm a bit tired today as I've been to Withybush Hospital, nothing serious, just a check-up and I didn't need any more transfusions at the moment thank goodness, but I didn't sleep very well last night for worrying about it, and I had a look around a couple of bathroom and kitchen shops while I was there in Haverfordwest, and I'm feeling a bit k*******d now, so I think I'll go for a lie-down for a couple of hours. Back later

Hi
We are back ,my what a lot of postings on here since we went away .

We are well worn out with all the dog walking ,it was OK for M as he went on his scooter .
The dog we looked after was a flat coated retreiver called Maddy a pretty big dog with a mind of her own determined to go walking along her usual trails ,if we tried to go any other way she would pull like mad my arm is about 3 inches longer now.
M took her on his own some times and she would walk happily along side his scooter.
The three cats were a grey one called Thomas , a Tabby cat called Buzz and a three legged fluffy black cat called Annie.

They were all no bother at all very well behaved.

Layyr
That is a nice photo of Lenny ,we saw lots of your relations on the way to Salisbury .
I keep saying Salisbury but we were actually in Laverstock just outside Salisbury.

Pauline I think there is a dogs trust in Laverstock is that where your sponsered dog is.

I don't know BG, it just says Salisbury branch on the paperwork I've got. But if there's a home there I suppose that could be it, Salisbury may be just the postal district (like Amroth is classed as 'Narberth' even though it's miles from there ! It's much nearer Saundersfoot, but who can understand the way those in charge of the the Post Office's minds work ?)

The dog trust in Salisbury area that my sister mentioned was just down the road is actually in Newton Toney (Tony) which is a few miles from Laverstock .I suppose to her that is just down the road.

Well wherever he is, his name is Harvey, he's a Golden Retriever and he's on this page:-

http://www.dogstrust.org.uk/sponsor_a_dog/dog_detail/?dog=108520&returnURL=/sponsor_a_dog/

He sent me a lovely photo of himself and a little card with a photo to put in my wallet -- AND he signed it himself ! LOL It was very hard to choose just one Dog though, if I was rich I'd sponsor them ALL.

Harvey looks a really lovely dog ,it is such a shame that so many dogs have to live in the trust ,but at least they do get well looked after by very dedicated staff.

Are Golden Retrievers your favourite dog

"M" is not too bad at the moment ,he has to go to the hospital on August the 21st to get the results of the tests and scans he had in Oxford .They don't half take their time with these things.

On saying he is ok he has done his back in and is in agony he only got of the sofa to answer the phone and must have twisted his back ,he knows now how you and Liz felt a couple of weeks ago .
He will not go to the doctor as he says they can't do anything .He is a stubborn old devil.

Glad M is not feeling too bad, BG. I thought it was a while since he went to Oxford. Hope the results will show good. Nice that he's able to get about on the old scooter.
But as for the back pain,...he's got my maximum sympathy, and I know how he feels. It's a thing that's easily done after reaching the 50s/60s, 'cos things tend to get tender and edgy around the backbone region when one reaches that age.
I've still got a little pain, especially after sitting down, like now when I'm at this box in front of me.
But, I've never ever, seen anything like the pain Liz had some weeks ago. We've laughed at it since, but it certainly wasn't a laughing matter at the time. Can you imagine what it was like for her trying to get in to bed. First, it was a major struggle trying to merely sit down on the edge of the bed, then to get one leg into the bed was absolutely acute pain and took about 5 minutes, then another 10 or more minutes to lie down. Then getting up the following morning was ten times more bloomin' difficult.
I'll post this now, in case I'm cut off.

And during all this struggling to get in and out of bed, she was in so much pain that she was screaming (quietly.) If she screamed out loud I'm sure the neighbours would think I was murdering her.
Ho! Ho! Ho!
But honestly, it was frightening, more so because she has always been in perfectly good health, so it was such a shock to see her in that state.
So, watch your step BG, take your time when having to get up hurriedly, like M did.

Ooh, I can sympathise with that, I've had a bad back on and off since I was quite young -- probably because I was always falling down and usually landed on my back.

I remember once in 1965 when we were on holidays in Dinas Cross and I'd quarrelled with my cousin Jean who was with us, and then got in a huff with my Mother and Father as well because they stuck up for her, so I stomped off to bed early.

When I woke up the next morning my back had completely siezed up and it took me well over an hour to struggle out of bed and hobble downstairs in agony, by which time everyone else had eaten their breakfast and there was hardly anything left for me. When I asked them why they hadn't come to look for me they said that they just thought I was still in a bad mood and was staying up there deliberately so they hadn't bothered ! LOL

Having a bad back is awful as everything you have to do seems to hurt your back.Standing Sitting or even lying down seems to bring no comfort at all.
Why does old age have to bring all these awful ailments with it .Once we retire we have all the time in the world to do just what we like but our poor old worn out bodies will not let us .

Ooooooooh! Now there's a poser for you BG. What is TGs real job?
A trowel and a sieve. Can't dig much with a trowel, and then there's the sieve which is normally used for straining particles of earth or other material.
He could be a historian BG,...digging little patches of earth and sifting it through the sieve, looking for human bones of old characters from the dark ages. Or,......he might be looking for old coins from the year dot, some of which...if he's lucky, could make him a millionaire overnight. But I've got a feeling that he's strongly connected with a caretaker's work in a cemetery.
Do I get 10 out of 10, TG ?

Well I have thought a lot about what job The Gravedigger may do.
He could be a brick layer as they use a trowel not sure about the sieve thought unless they sieve the sand and cement.

Then again he could be a cake maker as they use a trowel and a sieve.

HHHuuummmmm I wonder .

It is a hard job trying to boil an egg to perfection with the yoke runny and the white firm , the say four minutes is the perfect time but a lot depends on the size of the egg.
I would imagine an ostrich egg would take at least an hour.
A pullets egg would be about two minutes.

Egg timer only go for about four minutes so are not a bit of good for all egg sizes.

Talking about boiling an ostrich egg ,there was a program on TV a week or so ago (can't remember the name of it ) and they were frying an ostrich egg in a giant frying pan ,it would have fed a good few people.

I couldn't tell you what Fluffy's meringues are like because I don't think she's ever made any, but she does a great fruit cake

Hey Bob m8, we posted our messages at almost exactly the same time there, only 1 second apart Howzat for synchronisation

Fussy, on the subject of my job all I'm going to say is that Beacon Girl is a lot warmer than you

Well I must be warmer than Fussy as I keep getting the hot Flushes LOL

I have never attempted to make Meringues ,but I do buy the ready made nest ones and fill them with strawberries or Raspberries with a bit scoop of cream on top . DELICIOUS

I use to make a boil in the saucepan fruit cake which was quite nice.

Don't cook much sweet stuff these days as with it only being two of us it is easier and cheaper sometimes to just buy some.Plus I am bone idle .
