Right we have problems with the date of the get together.
First off it looks like LHW might have another prior engagement. We dont wont to miss out on LHW do we?
Secondly I have Hubbys 'surprise' ( how much longer in a small town like this?) party the night before. So I will be wrecked and hung over ( nothing new there though).
Then Cosmic Tigger, Bunyip et al are going to a concert in the Coliseum and apparently others that CT knows who dont post but just might come along for a drink are going too.
SO - BIG QUESTION>>>>>
Are we able to put it forward to the following weekend?
If not fine I will fit in.
If anyone on here cant make it the following weekend then we will stick to the 1st May as arranged and thats that.
PLEASE LET ME KNOW ASAP!!!!
Arrrrgggghh why is it me left to sort this out?!!!!

ML We can make it on the 8th of May .We have not booked anywhere to stay as yet for the 1st of May so it will be no problem to book for the 8th instead . But anyway you go for the date that is most suitable for the majority of people down there ,if for any reason we cannot make it on the 8th of May we can always arrange another get together later in the year .
To make it easier for you why don't you just let people know what pub to meet in then if anyone wants to go for food they can make their own arrangements .It is too much for you to have to plan and book up a place for us all to eat as well ,especially when numbers are uncertain .

Good idea Bg I will just say meet at a pub and take things from there.
I wonder if BB and Gems could make it the following weekend? I hope so as I wouldnt want them not to be able to come and would prefer to stick to the original date in that case.
For now we will 'pencil in ' both dates and see what transpires.
BB and Gems?
Whats your situation?

I'm easy. No forget I said that! I'll put it another, less incerating way -- it doesn't make any difference to me about the date. Is that better? Phew! Thought I'd done an ML for a moment!

Hi All, the 8th May will (hopefully) be the end of my first week in my new job, so it would be nice to have a bit of a celebration! I'll check with BB, but hopefully it should be ok

Lets hope you can both make it . It is so hard to get a date that suits everyone .We all have lots of other commitments to consider . Best of luck with your new job hope you like it .Will you be travelling to London every day or will you move there eventually .Expensive place to live and property there is very dear .

Oh yes you must get Kate to come to the gathering so we can celebrate her birthday with her .It will also mean there will be someone near my own age there to chat to other than MR . No offence meant to Kate because she is nearly 60. I quite liked reaching 60 as I got my pension and £100 pound towards my heating bill and free prescriptions .

Kate can be hard work when it comes to getting her out of the house, but I'll see what I can do with her, y'all. Perhaps we can arrange a nice game of bingo and a couple of pairs of knitting needles for you both!

Now ML, what on earth makes you think that? Besides, and depending on how nosey he's feeling, Sonny may not let you sit by the table as he likes to sit there so that he can see everything that's going on.
BTW, BG, as I'm cooking dinner tonight (meatloaf and baked potato) I'll get Kate to make the sarnies. It'll also give me a chance to get on the PC between 5.30 and 7.30 in the evenings.

Are we all agreed on Saturday the 8th for the get together please?
I can then post on the other site.
I would suggest meeting for a drink at 7.30 pm for all and maybe we could meet earlier for a meal or go after we have had a drink?

The 8th is ok for us too ,we will meet you at 7.30 where ever you people down there decide .We may not get to Wales much before that so a meal before 7.30 will be out for us .So we will meet up with you for a drink and MR and I will decide about food then and see what the rest of you are doing about food .
Does that make sense to you lot !!!!!! As it sounds like double dutch to me . LOL

BG stayed there before.
Although I think someone did say there was a B&B in Nith Street - wasnt it you BG?

We have found somewhere to stay ,the Dare Valley Country Park we have stayed there before and it is OK. ML Yes we did stay at the TY Andrew and we have stayed at the one in Nith Street ,both very nice places . I feel more relaxed at the Country Park though as I get stressed staying in someones house .

BG, what number Nith Street is that B&B ? Nith Street was only just around the corner from where we used to live, but there was no B&B there then. It's a very small street anyway ! The Scaccias used to live in no.1. The kids were younger then me, Tony, Michael, Maria, Rosa, and there may have been another one but I'm not sure. (I think Tony still lives there) Marje and Bill Davies who were our 'Milkmen' lived in no. 4, also Marje's mother Mrs. Linnel, but they also owned the two on either side of them. The one on the corner of Nith Street and Wind Street used to be a shop (in my younger days it was a Betting Shop) and then when the lease expired and it closed down they opened it up and made it part of their house again. The one on their other side on the corner of Albert Street was very small and when we were kids we were convinced it was haunted ! I think Marje moved into it when she was left on her own, but that was after we moved down here. Marje spent a holiday with us down here in 1994 and was going to come again, but she died in about 1996. Mrs Scaccia also visited us here when Maria and her husband came down to take Marje home, they left the babies bib here (don't expect he needs it after 10 years though ! LOL !) Anyway, it would be intersting to know which house you stayed in. (You could have popped round and taken a look at our old place !)

Clueless We Stayed at No.3 Nith Street ,I'm afraid I do not know the name of the owners it was just called Irene's , it was on the corner of Albert Street as the bedroom window looked out onto that street .I think it was 2 houses made into one . I did not realise it was so close to Wind Street until just now when I had a look on Multi-maps ,I would have gone and had a look at your house if I'd known.

To be honest I as always confused about the house numbers in Nith Street. The Scaccias house was on the left as you came up from Dumfries Street, so the back of it looked down towards the Mardy House and Aberaman. Marje's house as on the opposite side with the back facing in the direction of the former Police Station and St. Elvans Church. As I said, her house was no.4, and they owned the whole of that section between Wind Street and Albert Street, so I'd always assumed that the Betting Shop had been no.3, but as it had originally been part of their house, and later reverted to part of their house again, maybe the whole building was actually no.4 ! There was also an empty space on the opposite corner to them where some buildings had been demolished years ago, but they might have been classed as part of Wind Street, it's so long ago I don't really know. My Mother also used to have a friend in Nith Street who was famous for her Faggots and Peas ! I vaguely remember her, but she died at quite an early age. My Mother isn't too sure about the number of her house either, but it was on the same side as the Scaccias, so I suppose it must have been either 2 or 3, in which case it could have been the same house that you stayed in ! There was someone who posted on AoL some time back who used to live in the end house in Albert Street adjoining Nith Street, he might have remembered, but then again, his family emigrated to America when he was still in School, so maybe he was too young at the time to remember stuff like that. I had a few E-mails from him in 2002, but that was when I had the Bush box and I don't remember his E-mail address any more. Funny, I can remember what he looked like quite clearly, even though it was over 40 years ago, but I bet he's changed a bit since then ! (Haven't we all ? LOL !) I can remember SO many people from those days, but I don't recall people I met last year (is that a sign of Old Age ????????`)

Clueless We stayed in the house on the left as you come up from Dumfries Street ,maybe No1 and No3 were made in to one house to make it a B&B. It must have been odd numbers one side and even numbers on the other side .I will go and have a look when I go to Aberdare in May just for curiosity .

ML, we seem to have known a few of the same people over the years don't we ? As I said, the Scaccias were all younger than me, but I had friends in Albert Street and some of their younger brothers and sisters were the same age as the Scaccias and they all used to come and play in our street sometimes. Also, one of them (I think it was Rosa) was in school with my cousin (the shrink), and I remember my friend Tony once asked her what my cousin was like and she said 'HORRIBLE'. So there you have it ! Out of the mouth of Babes ! LOL ! I always remember the first time I saw Rosa, I must have been in the Grammar School at the time and I sometimes used to walk home via Dumfries Street with some other girls and when I passed the Scaccias house Rosa was sitting on the front room windowsill (inside) and she was SO little that I thought for a moment that she was a doll, until she smiled and waved to me ! After that I often used to see her sitting there and she always smiled and waved, so I guess she must have liked me better than she liked my cousin ! LOL ! Mr. Scaccia seemed a nice man too, he had one of those allotments between the Grove and Maes-Y-Ffynnon and he'd often pass our house with his spade over his shoulder and he always stopped for a chat. Mrs Scaccia said she would come down for a holiday in our caravan after they came here to fetch Marje home, but she never made it. (I think that Marje left her house to Maria when she died, because Maria had looked after her the last few years when she was ill).I've got some photos here somewhere of all of them sitting in our caravan.(Including the baby whose bib they left behind. He must be about 11 by now so I guess he doesn't want it back now !)

Bob It is a shame you won't come and join us ,we will keep our eyes peeled for someone who looks like they have a ferret in their pocket .LOL
I have a feeling other people off the sites come along just to have a gander at us all ,as we don't half get a lot of people looking at us all evening .Then again that could be because of all the laughing and joking that goes on ,we do tend to stand out a bit in a quiet pub .
It is disappointing that Murtle is not coming either .
