I have parents! Woohoo! Noticed this is also an underused forum. But, seriously folks.. There was a split in our family way back when and my father's grandfather came to Canada from London, England. He then changed his name from Klitch to Knight. My father was born in 1938, so work backwards for approximate dates. . . His grandfather's mother and sister, however, had the good sense to head for Cardiff. I have no idea what prompted all this, the clue being that apparently, the husband must have passed away, so Mama took her daughter with her, while her son ventured on the high seas. I will have to quiz my own mum on the dates [ she is the official keeper of dates and history, and being from the Davis clan, she is chatty and nosy and quite happy to keep all this info, but also to share it. ^_^ Guess who I take after???????? NO.. you only get ONE guess.... ] Once I have dates, I am still going to be "at sea" myself, since we don't know if she stayed in Cardiff or moved on.. [perhaps backtracking to London again]. or if she remarried, or if her daughter married and they all lived under the son-in-law's name. Since Germans were moving at that time towards their less-than-most-popular period, it is possible that they also chose to suppress their German heritage. [ I read a fabulous book about a German girl that lived in England during the war.. True to both my selves? something along that line. excellent]. Hey Pauline, maybe we're related! egad.. maybe that's why you have pebbles from Cobourg! [notice the German name..] oooooh aaaaaah .. cue the music from the twilight zone.. feeling faint now.. must go to another forum and lighten up a little.

If that means you are or speak German, then I am already aware.. and my favourite German word means eraser: radiogummy [probably spelt it wrong, but it makes me giggle] |

Good idea, Bob. My problem is,...I can't post a topic of my choice,...I can only answer one that appears within my grasp. Ho! Ho! Ho!
But I've got tap water.
I notice there are Smilies missing again. Funny old world, aye! |
